Music Haven’s mission is to use a string quartet to build a vibrant urban community through performance and music education that empowers young people, their families, and professional musicians.
PhilosophyMusic Haven was founded on the idea that excellence and equity need not be competing or mutually exclusive goals. We believe that all people should have access to quality arts learning opportunities. Therefore, Music Haven practices “in-reach,” performing, teaching, and understanding the needs of our traditionally marginalized communities.
Music Haven was also founded with the goal of bringing together people of all races, ethnicities, socio-economic class, genders, and ages to support each other through music, so that this world can be a better place for everyone to live in.
Therefore, Music Haven builds community by building strong relationships and helping everyone find a voice. Learning how to play and listen to music together is a transformative experience. Music Haven empowers both professional musicians and youth by giving them opportunities to use music as a vehicle for personal, artistic, and community growth. Our programs foster trust and strengthen skills that are critical to building a vital community – respect, responsibility, teamwork, communication, and creative problem solving.
