Student Spotlights
Let’s shine a light on our own.

Yovahni, 17

“The advice I would give to younger students is to practice! Everyone always says to practice, so do it! It might be boring, you might not feel like it, but you’ve got to do it!”
-
“My favorite Music Haven memory is playing Stand By Me by Stephen King for my grandma. Music Haven as a whole learned this song and played it during the last concert of the year around 2019. When we played, my grandma was tearing up because it was her favorite song. That will always be my favorite memory.”
-
“My plans after graduation are to go to college and figure out what I want to do in the future. The future is kind of scary when you think about it, but I believe after graduation everything will be okay.”
Ambar, 17
Cello, Senior
-
“Have fun while playing your instrument and don’t be afraid of challenge as it only makes you a better musician.”
-
“My favorite Music Haven memory was during a Harmony in Action dinner night. We were having Chinese food and collectively came up with ideas to propose to the Alders of our ward. It was fun to work with everyone and hear their ideas.”
-
“I plan on taking a gap year and spending it in Mexico with midwives who practice the ancestral Mayan way of delivering babies. I then plan on returning to the U.S. and attending college majoring in Women’s Gender and Sexuality studies and minoring in either French or Spanish.”
Kleynner, 17
Cello, Senior
-
“At first it may be difficult, but with practice, you can be better.”
-
“My favorite Music Haven memory is when I started playing cello.”
-
“I want to try to apply for the Navy or go to Southern.”
Nia, 17
Viola, Senior
-
“I would tell Music Haven students to always keep striving to get better. Even if the piece is hard, you don’t feel like practicing, or your scales are giving you the biggest headache ever (speaking from experience, scales aren’t my strong suit) stick with it! Find the fun in music and it’ll pay off in the end.”
-
“My favorite Music Haven memories are running back and forth from the woods to the group during the Harmony in Action Winter Retreat games.”
-
“Hopefully (fingers crossed), I’ll attend UGA and (definitely) major in animal science while minoring in business. I also plan to join an orchestra at the school or near-by!”
